Hard, but it is the fact.

It takes up to 10 tons of ore to produce one ounce of platinum, more than twice as much ore that is typically needed for an ounce of gold.

That is amazing. I really like platinum though. I feel that it is very stylish. Thanks for the info. I would have never known that.

Serious? How is that even feasible to produce? Seems like so much for so little. Doesn't sound profitable to me. Do they use the rest of the ore for other metals?

Well, it certainly is a smaller market than silver or gold, but anywhere that an entrepreneurial person can find a potential to make profit there is a business. Personally, I think mining must be one of the hardest business to be in, it's hard work, often dangerous, takes a huge investment, politics, and the uncertainty of ever bringing up enough of the good stuff to make you a profit. But, some people get the "gold fever" and are driven to do it.

Even just mining helped expand our nations economy in the past, by spreading west in search of gold, the country was used for as much as money could be made off of it. This may even have made the demand for gold and such grow as more people were making more money, even if it was only on support services. How one market has such an impact on the rest of the country, and the world's economy too is unbeleivable.

Yeah i did'nt know this but wow thats cool..

That is a lot for such a little amount. Just gives a reason why its so expensive.

Still... ~$1500 per ounce!? Is that right? It is ridiculous how expensive platinum is.
  11. BullionFace New Member

Right? But that's understandable, if that's really how much ore you need to produce it.... That's a bit ridiculous!

I always use to think why platinum is so costly. Is this the first reason of its high price?

Why, that is $200 per ton, plus they get other goodies there. Most of the platinum comes with other metals-- nickel, etc. So machines and cheap labor is the key.
